Clifton Marquee Company began in the Winter months of 2016. This can be a difficult time for most businesses with the downward dip that strikes every year after Christmas spending – but CMC didn’t let it stop them! With a whole load of experience and a sprinkle of spirit, Alastair and Stuart, began their journey back into the marquee industry – and what a spectacular job they did.
Our first event…
Our first job was at the stunning Downs School, for the School Rugby tournament. With its beautiful grounds and flat land, it was the perfect place to pitch up the very first marquee. We provided an unlined marquee, to shelter the supportive parents from the try line – a simple marquee but the start of a brilliant relationship between CMC and The Downs School. From this, we went on to do more jobs at The Downs School. On a sunny Saturday in August we teamed up alongside ACEs to provide an ivory lined wedding marquee, which was then decorated in a French vintage style. The warm weather meant that the window walls could be rolled up during the day, allowing guests to feels the cool summer breeze.
Many events followed…
Once CMC were off, they were running! From an extension in client’s home for corporate dos and birthday parties, to extravagantly royal marquees with burgundy lining for a New Year’s Eve wedding, there was no stopping the party.
From the eclectic range of events produced last year, there are a couple favourites (Shh, we aren’t meant to have favourite) in the mix.
Couple of our favourites
Building a Middle Eastern, Silk Road themed event for a birthday party, within an equestrian arena, was definitely different, to say the least. We used a wooden floor and a gold coloured carpet on top, to elevate the structure away from the sandy floor of the arena. The inside was lined with stunning saffron linings, complete with a reveal curtain, and a starlit roof within the nightclub area.
A wedding at a client’s home in Bristol was one of our many highlights of the summer. A beautiful day, with a magnificent marquee, festoon lights, clear roofs and window walls, meant they were able to incorporate their surroundings whilst being immersed in a day of love and joy.
Towards the end of the year, CMC build an intergalactic portal for a Christmas corporate event, where ACE’s whisked us off in a space ship, and we were taken on a flight through the galaxy.

One year on
A year on, celebrating CMC’s anniversary, we were back at The Downs School for the second year running! We even got some merchandise made along the way…
A little note from the writer, Charlotte – CMC’s newest team member!
Having only joined CMC a couple months ago, I immediately felt the professionalism and love that goes into this company. It has been an honour to have joined an organisation full of passion, expertise and enthusiasm. I have enjoyed every minute, and am so excited for the next year to come, and I hope you are too.
